The Role of the Crown Under Scrutiny in Roseanne Beckett's Long Walk to Justice

Posted by Barbara Etter APM on 31 August 2015 | 0 Comments

The role of the Crown, as the supposed model litigant, comes under fire in this detailed article by Wendy Bacon on the NSW miscarriage of justice involving Roseanne Beckett (Catt). Why is it the Crown vigorously opposed rectifying this injustice over many years when it was evident that police misconduct, at a minimum, was clearly involved? Summary of Roseanne Beckett Decision of the NSW Supreme Court re Malicious Prosecution

Posted by Barbara Etter APM on 25 August 2015 | 0 Comments

I have printed off the 175 page decision of Harrison J of the NSW Supreme Court which was handed down yesterday, Monday 24 August 2015, but I have not yet had the opportunity to read it. Of significant concern is the fact that it took 26 years to get justice and compensation in this matter. It is hoped that the matter can be analysed to determine why it was difficult to determine what had truly occurred in the matter in the first trial, the subsequent appeal and the inquiries and procedures that followed.
