NZ Miscarriage of Justice Case of Teina Pora - $2.5 million Compensation Payment to Be Increased to Allow for Inflation

Teina Pora, who spent nearly 22 years in prison after he was convicted in 1994 for the killing and rape of Susan Burdett in Auckland two years before, has won a challenge in the NZ High Court to have his $2.5 million compensation payment increased to allow for inflation. Anchoring or Tunnel Vision?

Thanks once again to Mr Bill Rowlings OAM of CLA for drawing this medical journal article from The Lancet to my attention. The article is entitled "Anchors Aweigh" and covers the issue of anchoring or cognitive bias in medicine. The concept is very similar to the phenomenon of "tunnel  vision" which has often been found to be present in police investigations involving miscarriages of justice. A Criminal Cases Review Commission Style Body for WA?

I was very pleased to read that the WA Labor Party State conference had endorsed a Criminal Cases Review Committee style body for that jurisdiction, similar to the body that exists in the UK and elsewhere. The issue was reported in the latest Civil Liberties Australia (CLA) monthly newsletter dated 1 September 2017. The publication stated:
